The Global Consultation on Water in the Post-2015 Development AgendaWater touches every facet of life and its complexity makes water a challenging issue to discuss. This consultation will allow for a global and open discussion on all aspects of water while also organizing three sub-consultations on WASH, Water Resources Management and Wastewater and Water Quality. WASH Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) are the foundation of human health. The Millennium Development Goal [Millenium Development Goals Declaration]7 recognized this fact with targets to halve the number lacking safe water and basic sanitation by 2015. The MDG drinking water target has been met, and yet 783 million people still don’t have access to an improved source of drinking water. And a shocking 2.5 billion still don’t have a decent toilet or a place to properly wash their hands. Until these problems are fixed children will die from diarrhoea and people will be killed by preventable diseases like cholera. Do you think WASH is a real problem that decision makers should fix? Share your views! Water Resources Management Changing demographics, increasing demand, competition between uses, climate change and economic turmoil all impact how water is managed. It is clear worldwide that the resilience of water resources that sustain our bodies, economies, ecosystems are under threat. A more intelligent approach to water resources management is crucial so the we can meet all our development objectives. How can we do it? Share your views! Wastewater and Water Quality Wastewater management is a global health, environmental and energy-use challenge – approximately 90 per cent of wastewater in developing countries is allowed either to meander untreated into open water bodies or leach into the soil. Dirty rivers, poor groundwater quality, unsightly urban centres, and shocking levels of public health, especially among the poor, are the principal by-products of this neglect. Improved wastewater collection treatment and reuse will improve water quality while building healthy cities, vibrant ecosystems and thriving costal communities. Do you believe this is a challenge for the future? Share your views! Please click here to register for the consultation, than please participate and HAVE YOUR VOICE HEARD! |
